For friendly, structured macpherson swimming lessons that build real water confidence and prepare students for the SwimSafer syllabus, our independent private coaching comes to the pool nearest you across MacPherson, Tai Seng and Circuit Road — or we can arrange lessons at a nearby public complex with a certified coach from our network.

MacPherson is a busy, well-connected estate in central-east Singapore, sitting between the industrial-turned-creative cluster of Tai Seng, the mature HDB blocks along Circuit Road and MacPherson Road, and the residential streets near Mattar and Aljunied. With MacPherson MRT acting as an interchange on the Downtown and Circle Lines, residents are spread across a dense mix of HDB flats, newer condominiums and shophouse neighbourhoods. Some families and working adults here prefer our come-to-you private coaching, held in the comfort of their own condominium or private pool; others would rather learn at a nearby public complex. We offer both.

Where we teach around MacPherson

MacPherson does not have its own public swimming complex, but that’s no obstacle — we offer two ways to learn. We coach at all of the following and more:

  • Condominium pools around Tai Seng, MacPherson Road and the Mattar and Aljunied fringe, where Coach U.K. teaches private 1-to-1 lessons at your own development.
  • Private and landed-home pools for families who want lessons in their own familiar surroundings.
  • Pools near the Circuit Road and Pipit Road estates, for households who prefer to learn close to home.
  • Nearby public complexes such as Geylang East Swimming Complex or Toa Payoh Swimming Complex, where we can pair you with a certified, NROC-registered coach from our network for lessons, and where SwimSafer assessments are held with our certified assessors.

Each condominium management sets its own rules about external coaches, so please check your development’s guest and coaching policy before the first private lesson. We are happy to explain what is usually needed in the MacPherson area, or to set you up with a network coach at a public pool instead.

Lessons for the whole family

MacPherson is genuinely diverse — long-time residents in the Circuit Road and MacPherson Road flats, young professionals working around Tai Seng, and families in newer condos near the MRT. Our coaching adapts to all of them.

Children and SwimSafer

We coach and prepare children for the national SwimSafer syllabus, developing the water safety, floating, breathing and stroke technique that each award stage expects, so your child progresses with genuine confidence.

Adults and nervous beginners

Many adults in established estates like MacPherson never had the chance to learn young. Nervous beginners and aqua phobia are a particular speciality of Coach U.K., who uses a calm, step-by-step approach with no pressure.

Babies, toddlers and special needs

We offer gentle baby, infant and toddler sessions to build early water comfort, and we have deep experience teaching children with autism, Down syndrome, ADHD and physical disabilities, always pacing each lesson around the individual.

Why MacPherson families choose Coach U.K.

Our founder and head coach, Umesh “U.K.” Singh, has been teaching swimming since 1999 — over 25 years of poolside experience. He is an AUSTSWIM-accredited swim teacher, a certified Singapore Armed Forces life-saver and an open-water swim trainer. That mix of teaching qualification and water-safety background means lessons go beyond strokes to cover real safety and survival skills. Coach U.K. personally teaches private 1-to-1 and small-group lessons at your own pool, and for public-pool lessons he has built an island-wide network of certified coaches who teach to the same standard — with flexible timings to suit shift work, school runs and weekends, so you always know exactly who is teaching your child.

What to expect in your first lessons

The first session is calm and pressure-free, designed to find your starting point rather than push you. For children around MacPherson and Tai Seng, we begin with simple water-comfort games — blowing bubbles, gentle submersion and learning to relax — before any formal stroke work. For adult beginners, we focus on settling nerves, breathing steadily and trusting a float before adding movement. From there we progress through gliding, kicking and the basics of freestyle and backstroke, refining technique as confidence builds. We give honest feedback each lesson and welcome parents to watch, so you can clearly see how your swimmer is developing. Because lessons are private or small-group — whether at your own pool or at a nearby public complex — the pace and content are shaped entirely around the individual, which is why so many busy MacPherson families find this approach far more effective than large fixed-timetable classes.

About SwimSafer and our independence

SwimSafer is Singapore’s national learn-to-swim and water-safety programme. We are an independent private swim school: we coach and prepare students for the SwimSafer syllabus, but we are not the official programme and have no affiliation with SportSG, Singapore Aquatics or the National Water Safety Council. The award stages, distances, times and any fees are set by the official bodies and can change. Please treat anything we mention as approximate and confirm current requirements with the official SwimSafer syllabus or Singapore Aquatics before booking a test.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a public swimming pool in MacPherson where I can take lessons?

There is no public complex within MacPherson itself, but the nearby Geylang East Swimming Complex and Toa Payoh Swimming Complex are both real lesson venues — we can pair you with a certified, NROC-registered coach from our network there. They’re also handy for a recreational swim and for SwimSafer assessments with our certified assessors. Alternatively, Coach U.K. can teach private lessons at your own condominium pool, so you can choose whichever suits you.

Can you come to my condo near Tai Seng?

Yes. Coach U.K. teaches private lessons at condominium pools across MacPherson, Tai Seng and the surrounding estates, subject to your development’s rules on external coaches. Just confirm your management’s policy and we will handle the rest — or we can arrange a lesson at a nearby public complex instead.

Do you teach complete adult beginners?

Absolutely. Nervous adult beginners are one of Coach U.K.’s specialities. We begin with water comfort and breathing before moving to floating and strokes, at a pace that feels safe for you.

What age can my child start lessons?

From babies and toddlers in gentle accompanied sessions through to teens preparing for SwimSafer award stages. We will suggest the best starting point after learning about your child.

How much do lessons cost?

Fees depend on class size, the pool used and whether lessons are private or small-group. We do not list fixed prices here — message us and we will confirm current rates and indicative packages for your needs.

Are you part of the official SwimSafer programme?

No. We are an independent swim school that prepares students for the SwimSafer syllabus. The programme is run by the national bodies, and we recommend confirming current test details with them.
