SwimSafer began with a simple belief: that learning to swim is one of the most important life skills a person can have — and that every learner, no matter their age or starting point, deserves a patient, safe and genuinely personal place to learn it. We are an independent swim school based in Singapore, coaching the national SwimSafer syllabus from a child’s very first splash all the way through to confident, water-safe swimming.
The school is led by founder and head coach Umesh “U.K.” Singh, an AUSTSWIM-accredited swim teacher and Singapore Armed Forces-certified life-saver who has been coaching swimmers across the island since 1999. Over more than two decades in and around the pool, he has built his reputation on one thing in particular: turning nervous, water-fearful beginners into calm, capable swimmers who actually enjoy the water.
Water safety comes first
Everything we teach is built around water competency and drowning prevention. The strokes, the distances and the SwimSafer stages all matter — but they sit on a foundation of survival skills, breath control and respect for the water. Whether a swimmer is four or forty, our goal is the same: that they can keep themselves safe, not just swim a length.
Patient teaching, built around the learner
No two swimmers are the same, so no two lessons look quite the same either. We keep classes private or in small groups so every learner gets real attention and progresses at a pace that suits them. That approach is especially important for the swimmers we are best known for helping — anxious adults and children overcoming a deep fear of water, and learners with special needs, including those with autism, Down syndrome and ADHD. Coach U.K. has a particular gift for building the trust these swimmers need, one gentle, encouraging step at a time.
We coach babies and toddlers, school-age children, teenagers and adults — beginners and stroke-improvers alike — right across Singapore. Coach U.K. teaches private one-to-one lessons at your own condominium, landed-home or private pool, coming to a pool you already know, with someone who remembers your name, your goals and exactly where you left off last week. And because he works with a trusted island-wide network of certified coaches, we can also arrange lessons at your nearest public swimming complex whenever that suits you better. When it is time to be assessed, SwimSafer tests are conducted by certified assessors.
SwimSafer is an independent school that teaches the SwimSafer syllabus; we are not the official national programme. What we offer instead is something more personal: experienced, accredited coaching, a safety-first philosophy, and the patience to help anyone — truly anyone — learn to love the water and stay safe in it.
